Sightseeing in Florence means being aware of visiting a city which is considered the world capital of
Art by many people. It’s enough to mention that the historic centre has been declared
“Universal Heritage” by UNESCO.
It is advisable to list the monuments and museums you’d like to visit, especially
if your stay in Florence will be for a weekend or for a few days only.
Florence is one of the cities with the highest concentration of monuments and
museums in the world: once you’re in the historic centre of the city they are
all easily reachable on foot, and this makes easier to move from a museum to another,
without the need of using the public transport.
Some of the most important museums and art galleries in Florence are:
- Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria;
- The Uffizi Gallery;
- Palazzo Pitti, where you can visit the gorgeous monumental apartments belonging
to Medici’s family and the Palatina Gallery which safeguards unique art collections
of the Late Renassaince and Baroque style.
The buildings and the galleries above mentioned are connected by the Vasari Corridor,
the only passageway crossing the river Arno which wasn’t damaged during the Second
World War.

The famous statue of David by Michelangelo is safeguarded at the Accademia Gallery,
whereas the Duomo of Florence (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), whose dome
characterizes the city’s skyline, is the fourth largest church in the world. The
Basilica of Santa Croce, where Michelangelo, Donatello, Galileo Galilei, Niccolò
Machiavelli, Gioacchino Rossini, Ugo Foscolo and other famous literary men and
artists are buried, is a must visit place for those who love Gothic style: infact
the church summarizes the esthetic principles of this style and, according to
many critics, it’s the best example of Gothic style in Italy.
Staying at a hotel located in the historic centre of Florence will make you save time that you’ll be able to dedicate to sightseeing in the
city: Grand Hotel Cavour is a 4 stars hotel located in the historic centre of
Florence, just a few hundreds meters far from the main attractions of the city.
